Hi Everyone
The sun is out, the sky is blue. There's even some clouds for all those people who aren't that keen on sunny weather and I've even heard rumours of a man seen walking out of Workhouse Coffee who doesn't have a beard...
And with so much going on, and the town being all abuzz with something that makes the townspeople make some sort of collective buzzing noise, it apears to be time to tell you what's in store for us at the Rising Sun this weekend.
On Friday, we bring you STAND-UP CINEMA
Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at the next Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at [email protected]
This month's main feature is THE TALES OF HOFFMANN (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, 1951)
A beautifully photographed film version of Offenbach's opera, a magic blend of adventure and romance with an endless stream of gorgeous melodies, tender love scenes, bizarre characters, and tragic climaxes.
This newly reissued print means that we can see the film restored to its original vitality and splendour.
It'll cost you a paltry £4 on the door. Short Films start at 7.30. Tales of Hoffmann starts showing at 8.00 pm
Saturday's a little quiet. Why not turn on the telly for the FA Cup semi-final between Reading & Arsenal? By the way, we realise at Rising Sun HQ that some people are predicting a rather one-sided game. However it's worth pointing out that cup-ties are rather an unpredictable beast. Who knows, it's possible that a bunch of somewhat unfancied minnows sucj as Arsenal might just sneak a win!
On Sunday we have MILONGA SIMPATICA
A small, friendly afternoon milonga aimed at giving people a chance to dance tango in a relaxed and stress-free environment. Good company, tea and cakes are provided. A nice way to wind down the weekend!
Very simpatico.
We'll be open from 4.30pm-8pm And it'll cost you a paltry £6. Join us.
That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
