This Weekend's Events (20th to 22nd November)

Hi Everyone

This humble town of ours is buzzing with noise and activity.   Not only is it fireworks night, again, for the 94th consecutive evening since late October, but news has reached Rising SUn HQ that Panda Pops will be bringing a battered Frod Transit in to such thriving locales as Tokers Green, Bradfield Southend and Three Mile Cross

(Bear with me a moment, I really need a break from hearing Hendryx J's practicing his flamenco flavoured version of "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing".. I'm just popping outside for a Pepsi...)

Right!  Where was I?  Oh yes, we have yet another packed weekend at the Rising Sun and it looks just so...

On Friday, we bring you STAND-UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at the next Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at [email protected]

This month's main feature is WALKABOUT (Nicolas Roeg 1971)

Roeg's first directorial credit, Walkabout is a stunningly composed film with all his signature camera work, cutaways and stillness.  Two young children are stranded in the Australian outback where they meet a young Australian man on Walkabout, a ritual separation from his people.  The clash of cultures seems gentle enough, communiation is largely non-verbal and the movie was largely improvised.  The result is a stunning essay on innocence and the many ways in which it is lost

Stand Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video.

We're open at 7pm and it'll cost you a paltry £4 on the door.  Short Films start at 7.30. A Touch of Evil starts showing at 8.00 pm

On Saturday, Club Velocity bring you BANDORAMA

The third saturday of the month?  The third saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town

THE AUGUST LIST
Everyone's fave girl/boy duo.  You should know them by now.  Peel is a HUGE fan (apparently, he listens to them in heaven... when not listening to the Fall....)

BLANK BIBLES
Our fave new six piece band of the year.Like Paul Simon having a punch up with Fleetwood Mac, whilst The Temper Trap are the referee.  Really rated around these parts, they should be HUGE by this time next Thursday

KHAMSINA
Huge talent.  Piano slayer.  Popjazz core for real punks (who own records by Billy Joel)

We're open at 8pm, and it'll cost you £5 on the door or £4 in advance from www.wegottickets.co.uk

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
