Hi Everyone

First of all a massive, humungous, outsized THANK YOU to all our volunteers for all their work not just on the day of Here Comes The Sun, but in the weeks and months leading up to it.  Also a long-running cascade of thanks to all the bands & performers who made such a fantastic line-up, and also to everyone who came through our gates last weekend.  It was a fantastic day all round

We are still counting the assorted pennies, cents, kopeks and groats, but we are confident that we've raised an amount which even by Here Comes The Sun standards is a pretty good result.  Yet again, after much work, it was great to see everything come together and everything run so smoothly.

Anyway, we have just one event for delectation and entertainment this weekend, it's on Friday and it just happens to be TRIBUTE NIGHT

Anyone who has been to a Rising Sun Tribute Night will already know the deal. Every three months we pay homage to a much-loved band or artist.  Everyone picks a song or two, practices them for a bit, then gets together again on Tribute Night to play them to a crowd - always with fascinating results. The next Tribute Night’s hero is announced at the end of the evening. It’s a simple but winning formula and is silly amounts of fun.

This summer, we recall a time when ‘alternative music’ was unintentionally thrust into the mainstream by the fiery, melodic sonic rush of NIRVANA.

Nirvana wrestled with their stardom, simultaneously chasing and eschewing popularity, producing music that was at once abrasive and laden with irresistible pop hooks, and creating their own multi-platinum anti-rock star paradox that proved ultimately to be self-destructive, leaving behind one of the most influential legacies in rock’n’roll history.

Nirvana Tribute Night will feature a number of local musicians performing a broad selection of classic, signature Nirvana songs alongside some lesser known gems.

We'll be open at 8pm for an 8.30pm start and as usual, there will be no charge on the door, but we suggest you keep £5 or more aside for when the friendly people with hats circulate the room, the bar, the hallway, the porch, the little bit of pavement out the front, and the smoking pen out the back.

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
