Tribute Night: Carole King

Price:
Free admission, but donations firmly encouraged - suggested £5 minimum

Join us at the 2017 summer edition of Tribute Night as we treat you to the beautiful pop songs of the most commercially successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100, and 61 hits that charted in the UK.

Carole King was just a teenager when she fought her way into the record industry as a songwriter and sold her first hit, Will You Love Me Tomorrow?, at the age of 17.  By the time she was 20, she was writing hits for some of the biggest names in the business, including Aretha Franklin, The Everly Brothers, Neil Sedaka, The Monkees, The Drifters and The Shirelles.  She also had a successful recording career as an artist in her own name, including the landmark album Tapestry, and her songs have been covered by numerous artists including The Beatles, Carpenters, Isaac Hayes, Barbra Streisand, James Taylor and Kylie Minogue.

This is another one of those nights that may require a little homework on your part. If you would like to be involved, please choose any song on which King has a writing or co-writing credit and ping an email with your choice to [email protected].

As always, there is no admission fee as such, but you will be expected to donate extravagantly when the hat-bearers circulate the building during the interval, and you will be thoroughly guilt-tripped until you comply, so keep at least a fiver aside.

Doors open at 8pm for a prompt 8:30pm start.
